now I need to go out and see if I can find galangal....

Don't you just love a new cookbook? This salad sounds great -- and I've never heard of galangal, so thanks for your comments on that. Funny as it may seem, even in San Diego where we have most produce all year long, tomatoes aren't great tasting in the winter unless you can get them from a farmer's market. Happy New Year to you!

Doggybloggy - if you can't find galangal, and it would at least take a trip to the Asian grocery for most people, just substitute ginger. It's different, but close. And the original recipe called for ginger anyway.

Kellypea,

I saw the variety of fresh vegetables in San Diego with envy. It's a small measure of comfort to know you have to go to farmer's markets to get the good stuff this time of year too! :) Happy New Year!
